How to use
ℹ️ For best experience use New Outlook. Outlook (Classic) is not supported.
The Secure Mail Outlook Add-in is available only when writing a message. After opening the message interface, you can find the add-in under "All Apps" with the name "Salax Secure Mail". There are two options for the add-in; "Secure Your Message" and "App Settings".
Secure Your Message
Selecting the "Secure Your Message" option from the add-in menu will open the security settings for your message. There are two steps to securing your message. These settings are applied to the message you are writing. You can still change any settings you like after applying them and when you are happy with the settings you can send the message in Outlook. A new message will need to be secured again.
Recipient Settings
In the first step you will see the recipients listed with their Protection Method dropdown menu (default option has already been selected). You can change the protection method for each recipient from the dropdown menu. The available options are:
- Not Protected Mail (Message will be sent as regular email without being protected by Secure Mail.)
- Protected Mail (Message will be protected by Secure Mail and the recipient will receive a notification message with a link to the message. This is the simplest level of protection.)
- Protected with Password (Message will be protected by Secure Mail and the recipient will need to insert the given password to access the message.)
- Protected with SMS (Message will be protected by Secure Mail and the recipient will need to insert a pin code that will be sent to the given phone number.)
- Protected with SSN (Message will be protected by Secure Mail and the recipient will need to go through strong authentication matching the given SSN.)
- STIV (Message will be protected by Secure Mail using the STIV protocol.)

Message Settings
In the second and final step you are able to configure the settings for the message. The available options are:
- Request a read receipt (Message will be sent to you after the recipient(s) have read the message.)
- Recipients can open the message only once (Access to the message will be blocked after it has been read once by the recipient(s).)
- Disable replies to this message (The recipient(s) can't reply to the message using Secure Mail.)
- Disable forwarding on this message (The recipient(s) can't forward the message using Secure Mail.)
- Unopened messages becomes unavailable (The recipient(s) has the given amount of days to open the message. If not opened in the given days, access to the message will be blocked. Value of zero (0) will not apply this setting in which case the server instance value will be used.)
- Opened message becomes unavailable (The recipient(s) has the given amount of days to access the message after opening it for the first time. After the days expire, access to the message will be blocked. Value of zero (0) will not apply this setting in which case the server instance value will be used.)
- Notification Language (The notification message that will be sent to the recipients will use the server instance configured message for the given language.)

App Settings
In the "App Settings" you will be able to configure your Secure Mail add-in preferences. These settings are applied to you only when you use the Secure Mail add-in. You can enable/disable settings and set default values for settings to make your experience of securing your message faster and more pleasant. The available options are:
- Security Extension (The security extension that will be added to the recipients for Secure Mail system to recognize that the message should be secured. This must match the security extension of the server. The default value should be configured by your system admin. Check with your system admin if you are unsure which value to use here.)
- STIV Security Extension (The security extension that will be added to the recipients for Secure Mail system to recognize that the message is a STIV message.)
For details on the protection methods, please see the Recipient Settings.

Why can't I see all available settings
There can be two reasons why you may not see all settings.
You have disabled the setting in your Salax Secure Mail add-in Settings. Check the "App Settings" for the add-in.
Your system admin who manages the Secure Mail instance has decided to disable or hide the setting. Please contact your company system admin for further information.
